UK Embassy: get your TIE now!

March 2025 update

The British Embassy reminds British residents in Spain that the old green certificate, though still a valid residency document in Spain, will not provide exemption from the EU’s Entry Exit system.

On our key information page, we set out the guidance previously given by the Embassy.

This remains valid. The old green cerificate is protected by law inside Spain.

But it will not be of any use to you if you want to travel out of Spain or back into Spain.

This month, the European Union (EU) has published draft legislation in preparation for the EES coming into force in Autumn 2025. It states that Green Certificates will not be recognised by the EES, in Spain or any other Schengen country. While the Spanish National Police may wish to be pragmatic with British residents in Spain, they will be operating under instructions from the EU so Green Certificate holders should not expect flexibility from them.

This will be concerning news for many, particularly Green Certificate holders. But there remains time for British residents to get a TIE if they act now.

All the details are spelt out in a letter from the new British Ambassador, which is published in full in our Members’ Area.

Calpe elections (2023)

New Council (to 2027)

The new Calpe Council has now voted. For the next 4 years (in principle) Calpe will be run by a coalition of 3 parties, and Ana Sala, the current mayor, will continue in post.

The party with the most individual votes, the Partido Poplular, who wanted to force Ana Sala out, have instead been forced into opposition.

Up-to-the-minute news, togther with detailed analysis of the results of the elections (held on the 28th of May) can be found in our members’ area.
